I'm a huge fan of Charity Parkerson's brilliant novel UNDEFEATED, so I couldn't wait to read A SECURE HEART which revolves around the children of the original characters in her previous work. With Parkerson's typical finesse, A SECURE HEART weaves a story about several characters who struggle to find love. There are four in all, and I love the way she structures her novel around serendipitous moments involving Flowers, Chocolate, Wishes & Sparks (if that doesn't scream romance, I don't know what does!). But don't be fooled by the seeming sweetness of these catalysts in the plot--Parkerson's forte is a wonderful (and at times gritty) realism in her characters that she balances with their hopes & longing to find love. One of the highest praises I can give an author is "I feel like I know these people," and it's that quality that Parkerson excels at best. Parkerson's characters are real and they know better than to believe in knights in shining armor--but sometimes they discover that underneath a scruffy exterior lies a heart of gold after all.

I'll NEVER forget it. I can't rember the last time a book made me laugh and cry. A Secure Heart has it all, love, passion and tears.
Great read. I enjoyed the story. I read it long into the night. Couldn't wait to get Charity's next book. Good stuff!
Too often stories about relationships don't feel "real." Charity Parkerson, however, has wove characters you could swear you know. There's a gritty eloquence and realism to her writing, in A Secure Heart. A must read for anyone and everyone!
This is one of those interwoven types of stories - where everything is linked, but you get glimpses into many people's lives and can follow the thread through from beginning to end. I liked all of them, but I have to say I just liked Bradley ( I mean Brad's ...hehhehe ) story the best, the twist was very surprising and well done and I thought it was totally neat. And, it IS his pic on this cover, right? hehehehe

Anyway, these stories are fun to read, the word imagery is great and the slightly humorous, sarcastic take in the Bradley/Flower story is something I particularly enjoy, such as the comments about the Barbie doll. ;) I thought this story, at first was headed for a sad ending, as well as Shannon's but I was happily surprised by both, but all of the stories were entertaining reads!
This is such a fun read. A Secure Heart (Secured Heart - The Complete Series) by Charity Parkerson features four stories about a quest for love. I found it very entertaining because the author takes us through so many emotions and we go from sensual, to passionate to hot.

The stories Flowers, Chocolate, Wishes and Sparks, each takes us on an adventure of relationships and challenges us to feel the raw emotions of the characters. She’s really got a way with creating real life characters. Flower was definitely my favorite, but there is a great cast of characters.

I also love how playful the author is, the stories are fun, so many wonderful lines like this, “She smiled in her sleep, as if she knew a secret, and he barely stopped himself from waking her to find out what it was.” Really enjoyed it. Highly recommended – five stars.

Let's get the only negative out of the way first. The author would benefit from a good editor. There were times when I had to stop, and reread sections to really understand what was happening. Fortunately the lack of great editing did not really hurt the story.

This book was a bit of a love story but in an interesting way. I enjoyed the way in which the author took a set of characters and created four consecutive stories. She was able to keep the stories interesting by her choice of story lines. Even though this book is essentially a adult romance, I found it to be well written with good characters. I found myself cheering for the characters even though they were not all "good" people.

I may be in the minority but I thought this book to be about how people come off as mean, arrogant, callous, etc. to some people yet they come off exactly the opposite to others. Basically, everyone has good within them if the right person comes along to bring that person to the surface.
Ms. Parkerson blending of four interwoven stories put me in mind of Dee Henderson's O'Malley Chronicles. The major difference being that Ms. Parkerson's characters have steamy sex and not necessarily inside the boundaries of marriage, either. The first such scene almost gave me heart flutters.

However, like Ms. Henderson's work, Ms. Parkerson has both strong female and male lead characters. At first glance, these characters seem to be superficial and stereotypical. Reading further, you discover the characters are like artichokes. You peel off the tough layers, you discover their hearts.

The stories also have intrigue side to them. Once you think you've figured out what's going to happen next, look out.

As I work through my ever growing list of books, I think I'll look forward to Ms. Parkerson's other books. I just hope my heart can take the palpitations.
